A clinometer, also known as an inclinometer, is an instrument used for measuring angles of slope, elevation, or depression relative to gravity. On ships, clinometers are typically mounted on the bridge and used to monitor the angle of heel. This is especially important during sharp manoeuvres, rough sea conditions, or while loading and unloading cargo, as it provides the crew with vital information about the ship's balance and safety.
